Winter is here!

At exactly 15:00, Christmas lights shone brightly on Aleksanterinkatu and my hands were frozen. Winter is officially here! Today’s parade consisted of snow angels, WWII veterans, circus performers, Santa Claus and even cars that were decorated as reindeer. Even though it didn’t snow, the huge Christmas tree in front of Helsinki Cathedral managed to cheer everyone up :) I have never seen Helsinki so alive and excited.

In the woods

We haven’t explored the forest next to the bay, it’s right behind the cliff. November air is cold and dry, we walked on top of wet leaves and black ravens. These days the sea is quiet. No more songs of seagulls, ferries and boats don’t come here anymore. Occasionally there is an old man fishing in the boat. When snow comes, all of this will be forgotten…

Finland celebrates Father’s Day on the second Sunday of November. We went to Nurmijarvi to visit Olli’s parents and celebrate. I baked a blueberry cheesecake and talked with the birds. Today we enjoyed delicious reindeer with mashed potatoes and lingonberry, this is my second time eating reindeer and it still tastes amazing. After coffee and cake, we said “moi moi” and headed home.
